UK payments fintech Zilch, which has 6 million customers, said it will move to a new headquarters in Victoria, London, doubling its office capacity. The company will take two floors totalling 33,160 square feet, with room for more than 400 staff. The £77 million commitment covers a ten-year lease. According to the CEO, customer spending has passed £8 billion.

What it means: At a time when many tech companies are shrinking offices and encouraging remote work, a ten-year commitment to a bigger headquarters is a statement of confidence in growth. Zilch started as a buy now, pay later service and is trying to become a broader payments platform, with revenue also coming from advertising and merchant deals. The move also ties into its European expansion, which runs through buying a Lithuanian bank to gain an EU licence after Brexit. Meanwhile, tighter consumer credit rules in the UK and Europe are raising compliance costs and require more control staff, which partly explains the need for more space. Growth in headcount is not only about product teams. In the Greek market, where interest-free instalments on credit cards have long been common, new players in the space will face strong competition from banks. The EU consumer credit directive, which applies from late 2026, will in any case bring stricter rules on creditworthiness checks and transparency for all providers.
