KORT Payments has agreed to acquire 100% of Toronto-based AptPay, which provides real-time payments and payment orchestration. The deal adds AptPay's platform for account-to-account money movement across several networks to KORT. Financial terms were not disclosed and closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. AptPay will continue as a KORT division under its own brand, led by chief executive Shams Syed.

What it means: Card payment providers increasingly try to offer direct account-to-account payments as well, because their customers, mainly businesses, want cheaper and faster options for payroll, refunds and disbursements. Buying AptPay gives KORT ready technology that connects to many payment networks and picks the right one for each transaction. North America is gradually gaining truly instant payments, with FedNow in the US and the Real-Time Rail in Canada, and companies are positioning early. In Europe the same trend is already further along, as the instant payments regulation requires banks to offer instant SEPA transfers at the same price as regular ones. For Greek businesses, this means payments through IRIS or instant transfer can replace cards in many cases at lower cost, especially for large amounts. For software providers, orchestrating several payment methods from one place is becoming a basic customer requirement. The acquisition confirms that the future of payments is multi-channel.
