The Browser Company has announced that its Arc browser will stop working on macOS and Windows on 22 December 2026. Accounts will be deactivated and personal data deleted within 30 days. The company suggests moving to Dia, its AI-centred browser, which can import Spaces, tabs, folders, bookmarks, history, passwords and extensions. Arc Search for Android will be withdrawn, while on iOS it will remain as a basic browser.

What it means: The end of Arc is a reminder that even tools with a loyal following can disappear when the company behind them changes strategy. The Browser Company is betting on a browser built around artificial intelligence, because that is where it sees the contest with Chrome, Edge and the new browsers from AI firms. For Greek teams that use Arc at work, the practical priority is to export bookmarks and passwords in good time and decide whether to move to Dia or another browser. Migrating passwords needs care: it is better to move them into a password manager than to leave them in yet another browser. If Dia is the choice, it is worth checking what page data it sends to AI models and whether that is acceptable for company content such as internal systems, CRM tools or customer email. At IT policy level, the case shows why a list of approved applications and an exit plan for tools from small vendors are useful. Deleting data within 30 days of shutdown is positive from a GDPR point of view, but it also means anything not exported in time will be lost.
