London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has signed an agreement to acquire Octus, a provider of credit intelligence, data and workflow tools, for 3.535 billion dollars in cash. The sellers are funds advised by Permira and Octus management. The deal will be financed with external debt and is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval. The agreement comes a week after talks between the two sides were first reported.
What it means: The news confirms that the talks reported a week ago have become a binding deal, with a set price, financing and timetable. LSEG is investing in credit markets, where information on restructurings, bonds and private loans has become valuable as private credit grows. Combining Octus data with LSEG's existing platforms creates another heavyweight in financial information, a market already dominated by a handful of firms. For Greek banks, insurers and investment firms that pay subscriptions to such providers, market concentration usually means bundled services and possible price pressure at contract renewal. It is therefore worth reviewing early which datasets are genuinely essential and whether alternatives exist. Financing the purchase with debt also shows that large market infrastructure groups see credit data as a steady revenue stream able to service borrowing. Regulatory approvals in the UK, the US and possibly the EU will decide the timetable in the end, so customers should not expect changes before 2027. Until then, existing Octus contracts and service levels are expected to continue as they are.
