OpenAI doubled usage limits for Work and Codex on its Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 plans from 29 October, according to an email seen by BleepingComputer. It is also preparing a single allowance, so that ChatGPT and Codex use draw from the same quota, with Unlimited Instant excluded. In the coming weeks it will test merging the Chat and Work tabs with a small group of users, so that a conversation can grow into a complex task without switching modes. Codex stays separate in the desktop app.

What it means: The changes show where competition in professional AI tools is heading: from simple chat to agents that carry out tasks, such as building websites, making presentations or acting on the web. A single allowance simplifies things for users but makes costs harder to predict: more complex tasks eat more of the shared quota, and once it runs out the choice is to wait, upgrade or buy credits. For Greek development teams and offices using ChatGPT and Codex side by side, it is worth watching in settings how much is used and which tasks absorb it before deciding which plan to keep. Bringing agent features into everyday chat also means more employees will give a tool access to files and plug-ins. That calls for a clear policy on which data may be uploaded and which actions need human confirmation. The generous limit increase, days after the reported cut in the funding target, also shows how intense the competition for paying customers has become.
