On 4 November 2026 Broadcom’s VMware introduced vSphere Express, a lower-cost essential virtualization offer for organisations that do not need full VMware Cloud Foundation. It includes features such as vMotion and high availability and supports up to 128 cores on discrete instances without the central multi-host management of higher bundles. Distributors cited about $9,600 a year for up to 128 cores; VMware did not publish an official price in the announcement.
What it means: For Greek SMEs, MSPs and firms with small clusters squeezed by VCF/VVF pricing after Broadcom’s takeover, Express may be a stay-put bridge instead of an immediate move to Proxmox, Hyper-V or public cloud. Cost carefully: a flat price up to 128 cores may not suit the smallest estates. Lack of central multi-instance management limits larger deployments. Before renewing, buyers should compare three-year TCO, training cost and exit options. Channel contracts and local partner coverage still matter after Broadcom ecosystem changes. Compliance teams that rely on specific VMware controls in audits must confirm Express meets the same hardening and logging needs. It does not remove the case for reducing single-hypervisor dependence. For Greek public and regulated buyers, price transparency and roadmap stability should be explicit in RFPs. In practice, teams should name an owner, update the risk register and agree success criteria within 30 days. Where suppliers or customers are affected, send a short notice that points to the primary source and avoids overstated claims. Compliance, cybersecurity and payments operations are linked; a change in one area often requires a pass over contracts, access rights and continuity plans. Finally, keep a review date so the item becomes concrete actions for the Greek business rather than newsletter noise alone.
