Greece's tax and customs authority AADE announced on 23 October that, under decision A.1219/2026, applications for Binding Origin Information are now submitted digitally through myAADE, under My requests, Customs, Origin. Binding Origin Information is a customs decision on the origin of a product that binds all customs authorities in the EU for three years. The decision sets out the competent offices, time limits and standard forms. Questions are handled through the my1521 platform.

What it means: The origin of a product decides whether an export or import qualifies for reduced or zero duties under EU trade agreements, and whether measures such as anti-dumping duties apply. For Greek exporters and importers, a binding decision brings certainty: instead of risking a different reading at each customs office or back-dated duties after an audit, they get a ruling valid across the EU for three years. This is especially useful for goods made with inputs from several countries, such as food, chemicals or processed products, where the origin rule is not obvious. Digital submission through myAADE cuts time and paperwork and should make the process easier for smaller businesses that have avoided it until now. Before applying, it is worth gathering documented details on the product's composition, the origin of materials and the production stages, since the decision rests on them. Customs brokers and accountants serving exporters should update their procedures. Note also that the ruling binds only for the specific goods described, so any change in composition or production may need a new application.
