By decision of AADE Governor Giorgos Pitsilis, the deadline for businesses to review and update their Activity Code Numbers (KAD) has been moved to 31 December 2026. The new KAD codes (2025 edition) were assigned automatically under the updated European classification of economic activities. Filings can be made without a fine, provided no KAD change has been declared for the head office or a branch after 1 March 2026. The process runs through myAADE, in the section for changing establishment details, with support from the 1521 helpline.

What it means: The automatic mapping of old KAD codes to the new European codes is not always accurate, because the new classification splits or merges activities differently. A business may end up with a code that describes what it does incompletely or wrongly. That has practical consequences. The code affects eligibility for subsidy and funding programmes, obligations to link cash registers and POS terminals, presumptive income ratios and some sector-specific duties. The extension gives accountants and businesses more time, but the work is best not left to the last days of December, when other year-end obligations pile up. A quick check in myAADE, comparing the new code with the actual activity of the head office and every branch, is enough in most cases. Particular care is needed for businesses preparing applications to NSRF or Recovery Fund programmes, where eligible codes are strictly defined. Those who already filed a change after 1 March fall outside the fine waiver, so they should discuss their case with their accountant.
